Henna and Photo
by Paula Broussard
|
Paula Broussard has an extensive art background in photography, Japanese katagami and painting which all led to her discovery of henna in 2000 as a unique medium to express her creations on the living canvas of the body. Henna art is more than just a temporary tattoo, it’s a living artwork that changes with reaction to heat, air, body chemistry and even the mood of the person receiving the design, making each experience a singular one.
She enjoys the element of therapeutic magic and sensuality in the henna art process, and makes a point to spend time with each person to develop designs that speak to their particular lifestyle, needs, likes and dislikes. A frequent traveler fluent in French, she enjoys adding multi-cultural elements to traditional motifs. Her favorite styles are dense Arabic hand florals, striking tribal arm and back designs, designs involving the written word, and full-back designs such as fine art recreations (The Mona Lisa, Botticelli’s Venus, etc.) but she also enjoys fun, whimsical designs for the feet.
She selected the name of “Lotus Henna” to reflect upon henna’s spiritual elements as well as the delicate process that reminds her of the unfolding petals of a lotus flower. |
